Additional Mathematics
Syllabus 4037Cambridge International
Cambridge O Level Additional Mathematics (4037) extends the O Level Mathematics syllabus into pure mathematics topics that are foundational for A Level Mathematics. Two papers, each 2 hours, 80 marks each. Take this if you plan to pursue A Level Maths, Engineering, Physics or Economics — it significantly reduces the difficulty jump.
Key topics
- Functions — domain, range, composite & inverse
- Quadratics & polynomials — factor & remainder theorems
- Logarithms and exponential functions
- Differentiation & integration (introductory calculus)
- Coordinate geometry, circular measure, trigonometric identities
- Vectors in 2 dimensions, kinematics, binomial expansion
Exam tips
- 01Strong O Level Maths is a prerequisite — revise quadratics and indices first.
- 02Memorise integration rules and trigonometric identities — they appear in almost every paper.
- 03Practice calculus questions daily for the last 4 weeks before exams.
- 04Practice past papers from at least the last 5 sessions — pattern recognition is half the battle.
- 05Master the CAIE command words: define, explain, evaluate, calculate, describe, compare, state.
