Mathematics
Syllabus 4024Cambridge International
Cambridge O Level Mathematics (4024) builds a solid foundation in algebra, geometry, statistics and number theory for students preparing for higher studies. The course is assessed via two papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2), each lasting 2 hours and carrying 80 marks. A strong O Level Maths grade is a prerequisite for A Level Mathematics, Sciences, Engineering and Computer Science admissions.
Key topics
- Number — integers, fractions, decimals, surds, indices
- Algebra — linear & quadratic equations, simultaneous, inequalities
- Mensuration & coordinate geometry
- Trigonometry — Pythagoras, sine & cosine rules
- Vectors, matrices, transformations
- Probability & statistics (mean, mode, histograms)
Exam tips
- 01Show every working step — most marks in Paper 2 are method marks, not answer marks.
- 02Practice non-calculator arithmetic for Paper 1 — speed matters.
- 03Memorise the standard formulas not provided on the formula sheet (compound interest, distance-speed-time).
- 04Practice past papers from at least the last 5 sessions — pattern recognition is half the battle.
- 05Master the CAIE command words: define, explain, evaluate, calculate, describe, compare, state.
